Hello,

I am working together with Ron Ammundsen (BC Lighthouse website) and Jim Derham-Reid on a database project in which we have included all the British Columbia lighthouses (both past and present along with their opening/closing dates). Together with this we are adding past and present lighthouse keepers with their dates of service on each lighthouse worked. We are also including lighthouse station weather observers, radio operators, truck drivers, etc. - in fact, anybody that lived/worked on the lighthouses, no matter how long.

We are collecting the data in the format:

Surname, Given Name, Lighthouse, Principal/Assistant/Relief/Other, Start Date, End Date (see NOTES at bottom of this mailing) and we wish to do it for all lighthouses that people have worked on. Once a significant quantity of data is collected, then Ron is going to post this database to the Internet linked to his Lighthouse page.

On the Internet, a person will be able to search for a specific lighthouse, or a specific name and get a printable list.

This project came about because of the numerous requests in his guestbook for Genealogical data relating to lighthouses and who worked them and when, and also from a historical point of view - a record of lighthouse keepers!

I have sent this message to as many people as I know right now, with extra help from Ron and his guestbook, but if you are acquainted/neighbours with any other BC "lighthouse people" (active or retired) or have any lists that I could use, please add the names/information and email addresses to your reply. If it is easier, just forward this email. Thanks. Any information appreciated.

The database is fully workable now and has over 1200 entries. I will be doing the data entry and updating. So if any mistakes are found then an email will correct them quickly.

PS If your email gets returned, wait a day and send it again. When our server is down over here they don't make any provision for backup.

NOTES 1. dates can in single year format (i.e. 1954) or full format (i.e. January 24, 1954) depending on what you remember, or even "abt 1954" 2. Relief ligthkeepers can be included as well 3. If a wife's name is known, then she can be included in the database Notes section, or included as a lighthouse keeper if she worked a station 4. If you can remember the name of the Principal/Assistant keeper(s) of the station where you worked, and enclose this as well with your own lists, then I would have a cross reference for people that may have passed on, or are missing.

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP!
